Presented in association with NAACP Portland
The Sweet Honey experience is like no other. These six women have inspired audiences for thirty-five years with their spirited call for a more just and humane world. Their glorious voices blend in a mix that celebrates the sacred music of the African-American church – spirituals, gospels, and hymns – as well as the blues, jazz, reggae, doo-wop, and rap. Honoring the eightieth birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King and the hundredth anniversary of the NAACP, Sweet Honey weaves songs, stories, and movement to challenge injustice, encourage activism, and honor love. A community gospel choir featuring Maine singers will open the celebration. With ASL interpreter.
